Although
accredited on Whitney Joins The JAMS and Burn The Beat it is in 1988
when The KLF release their first record, the ground breaking, KLF 004T - What Time Is Love? A
far cry from the rap & scratch sounds of The JAMS the original What
Time Is Love? 12" was a gloriously hypnotic floor filler with trance
and techno mixes. The tracks were later remixed and released on KLF 004R. The next release was KLF 005T
- 3am Eternal which as before was also remixed and released on KLF
005R. It had been intended that The KLF would release a new track each
month for five months making up the Pure Trance Series. The next singles
planned were Pure Trance 3 - Love Trance, Pure Trance 4 - Turn Up The
Strobe and Pure Trance 5 - Go To Sleep / E-Train To Trancentral.
Unfortunately the project was shelved before their release in part
because The KLF had become pre-occupied with the filming of their motion
picture The White Room a 45 minute road movie of their journey from
Trancentral to the White Room. Although the film was never to be
released a few "directors cut" promo copies have found their way into
the grateful hands of some collectors and fans. It was while away
filming on location orders for What Time Is Love? & 3am Eternal came
flooding in from across Europe as the tracks quickly became club and
rave anthems. As welcome as these sales were filmmaking is very
expensive. To recoup some of their money The KLF recorded an entire
album of pure pop cross-over tracks intended for release following the
chart topping release of their next single KLF 010P - Kylie Said To
Jason. Starved of airplay by the BBC the single bombed and The White
Room album was shelved for another two years. They instead released a
mini album of remixes and cover versions of What Time Is Love? JAMS LP4 -
The What Time Is Love? Story. With the rave scene in full swing The KLF
released JAMS LP5 - Chill Out, the perfect "come down" for the dance
weary partygoers. A single 45 minute track of dreamy Ambient House it was universally acknowledged as the definitive blue print for the genre. . .To Continue The KLF Story CLICK HERE
